If you are thinking of a one night stand, better do it in grand style at the Grand Hyatt and its China House Lounge. Unlike other Chinese restaurants in Mumbai, the China House Lounge recreates the typical warmth of a Chinese home. That it offers authentic Chinese cuisine goes without saying. The restaurant features multiple seating layout, glass show kitchens and a lounge as well. Lunch is from 12.30 PM to 3 PM and Dinner starts at 7 PM and lasts well until midnight. A set menu costs around Rs 2500 to Rs 3500. It has been awarded the Best Chinese Restaurant by Times Food Awards and the dishes are simply divine as is the décor.
The Grand Hyatt is located off the Western Express Highway in Santacruz, Kalina, close to the Bandra Kurla Complex. You cannot miss it. Hire a taxi or take a local train. Better still; go for bikes for rent in Mumbai or a car from Ziphop car rentals in Mumbai. That way you have your own transport and you can move around at will.
What to do
Naturally, if you are in a restaurant, you eat. The China House Lounge offers a delectable spread. You can have your fill of Peking duck, Dim Sum, Zodiac and sake cocktails, Beggar’s chicken, Dan Dan noodles, King Crab, prawn dumplings and wines to go along. There is music playing in the background and the ambience is just mesmerising. The best thing to do is to eat a little, drink a little, chat a little or dance and spend a couple of hours until it is closing time. If there is sumptuous spread of non-vegetarian stuff, the vegetarian stuff is no less delightful. One must not miss the Lotus Root fritters.
The lounge is spacious and it is divided into various sections. You can start with the pub area and have a couple of drinks. You can then choose to sit in the enclosed area or in the open or even in a private dining room. Start with a cocktail. Each one has a story. Before that, however, you will find it informative and interesting to admire the collection of Chinese coins and the walls of the interiors that depict scenes from China.
China House is not just a culinary experience. It is enlightening. You get to know about China of the bygone days and dine on authentic Chinese foods in a lovely ambience that woos your soul.
