Just make sure to go in a car obtained from a car rental agency or a bike from a bike rental agency close to you. It is so much more fun.

27th Friday to May 1 Tuesday is a period in which you have Buddha Purnima and Maharashtra day and those in Maharashtra will find it a perfect time to enjoy Alibaug, Lonavla, Matheran. Elsewhere it may not be an extended weekend so a short trip to Khuppar Top in the Noth, Mahabalipuram in the South and Pondicherry, could be a good way to have fun.

1st is Saturday and 3rd Monday is Janmashtami. 13th is Thursday, Ganesh Chaturthi. Both times are great to head off wherever your fancy takes you on a bike onto Rohtang Pass or the great desert road of Jaipur-Ajmer and Udaipur.
29th September is Saturday and 2nd October is Gandhi Jayanti, a great time to visit temples like Yamunotri or Gangotri and have fun at Chopta and nearby places. 18th October is Ramnavmi on Thursday, 19th is Dussehra and then you have Saturday and Sunday, luring you to Puri in Orissa or Mysore if you are in the South.
3 November to 11th November is Diwali time, great to head to Maldives, to Bhutan, to Northeast or to Kutch or Goa and have a fun tour.
22nd is Saturday and 24th Monday is Christmas eve with Tuesday the 25th being Christmas. Winter is perfect for spending all day in sunshine and you could do it in quiet in the Marine National Park off Jamnagar or enjoy a white Christmas in Nainital.
