Skandagiri is a beautiful hill, approximately 60 kilometres away from Bangalore city, off the Bellary Road, very close to Chikkballapur town in Kalawara village, Karnataka. Route to take
Start your journey from Bangalore in the morning by 8 a.m., follow the NH-7 Hyderabad-Bangalore highway route to reach Chikkballapur and from there you can move to Pappagni Matt where you can park your vehicles. Or from Pappagni Matt, which is a dead end, you have to make a right turn and then move along the first left turn. You will get a narrow cut road where only two- wheelers can move. After moving along this road for 2 kilometres you will reach the destination by 10 a.m., covering a distance of 60 kilometres. You can have your meal and start the trek from there which takes about 2 hours to reach atop of Skandagiri. Total time taken for the whole journey is 1.5 hours.

What to see and do
You can visit Pappagni Temple in Kalawara village of Skandagiri which is there at the starting point of trek and is 3 kilometres away from Chikkballapur. Also, the Skandagiri Hills are famous trekking sites which takes approximately 2- 2.5 hours from the base, the Pappagni Matt. A Hill Fort made by Tipu Sultan, tells us the historic significance of this place. There are two caves, through the hill having 6 Samadhis also. There is a stone house structure at the top to rest. All in all this place is ideal for day and night treks, camping and bird watching.
